Ascendants & Descendats

bronze in shiny black patina or 24k gold leaves

I have no more ascendants and no descendants. Nonetheless, I don’t want my life to end there.

This work demonstrates what built and defines me today. My get-togethers with you – anonymous or with relatives, with friends or enemies, lovers or fantasies. All of you I have met also shaped me.

I gathered all my memories and encounters together: our emotions, our exchanges, your faces, your bodies, your love, your abhorrence, your affection, your support, your admiration, your hatred, your looks, your caresses, your blows, your beauty, your cowardice, your heroism, your words … all brought about the birth of these sculptures. They are witness to all this. These are your oneiric portraits: memories of emotions of my life with you all.

Look closely! You will find yourself in a sculpture, if not in all of them. Thanks to you who have shaped and built them, these sculptures look like you. They are you.

I’m clear on the identity of only one, which reflects the last moments of emotion and exchange with my mother a few days before her death. I will not reveal it to you; so do not ask me to do so. The emotion that helped me make it live was strong – as strong, perhaps, as the most beautiful moments spent with you. Now she is no longer mine.

My genealogy in sculpture is not over and I will give you the pleasure – or the annoyance – of discovering yet new works. My head is filled with you.
